Located in eastern Pennsylvania, within easy reach of all the cultural and urban resources of Philadelphia, lies the small city of Bethlehem, PA. Long known for its rich colonial and industrial history, Bethlehem is now experiencing a bright economic and cultural rennaisance. Since 1741, when a small group of Moravians first settled along the banks of the Lehigh River, Bethlehem has beckoned travelers to experience its hospitable warmth. By the time of the American Revoloution, 36 different trades and industires were represented in Bethlehem, and during the Industrial REvolution, Bethlehem became a center of industry, as the home of the world headquarters of Bethlehem Steel. With the name "Bethlehem" attached to the city, in 1937 the local Chamber of Commerce was struck by the appropriate idea of having Bethlehem be the "Christmas City" for the entire country, and so it has been known ever since. Bethlehem is also the location of Lehigh University, whose 1600-acre campus is affectionatley known as "Old South Mountain."
